This house is "NOT HAUNTED" says agent Jake Palmer

When people are trying to sell a house, they usually try to make it sound as appealing as possible. For example, an old, out-of-date house may be described as a place with character.

One real estate agent in New Brunswick is trying to make a house he is selling sound as appealing as possible too, but doing it with a rather humorous twist.

Right underneath the "For Sale" sign, Jake Palmer has put signs (called "riders" in the business) that say "Not Haunted," "Love Shack, Baby" and "Indoor Plumbing." Riders usually feature words such as "Ravine Lot," "Virtual Tour" or "Reduced Price."

The house in Saint John, New Brunswick, is a three bedroom, one and a half bathroom detached with a large private backyard, a single car garage and updated electrical, windows and siding. It's listed for $198,400.

"When a house has been on the market for a while you've already told everyone every feature the house has so you start highlighting some of them people might not typically think of," Palmer told CBC.

Palmer came up with the unconventional approach when talking with the homeowners. He already had the "Indoor Plumbing" sign that he had made as a joke. After receiving positive response to that sign, they changed it to the "Not Haunted" one and it has gone viral.

Palmer told CBC that while the interest is great, it has actually translated into showings.

On the web page for the home, the brick two-storey house is described as "offering a harmonious fusion between classic and contemporary" and a short stroll from the heart of the city.

"The spacious dining room can accommodate the most debonair of dinner parties or quaint family get togethers," reads the site. "Enjoy the charm and character of a classic home that has been consistently maintained & upgraded. New windows, insulation, and a high-efficiency natural gas furnace."

Nope, nothing about ghosts.

On the web page for the home, Palmer has also put a YouTube video of the Commodores song Brick House.

Palmer admitted in an email to Buzzfeed that the sign was made to attract attention. To the best of his knowledge, the house isn't haunted. But now I can't stop thinking about the possible ghosts of the house. What if Palmer just missed them when he was checking with his flashlight?
